Dr. Victoria Norton

Victoria L. Norton, Psy.D., is a fully licensed pediatric clinical psychologist. She achieved her Bachelor's degree (1996) in psychology from The Ohio State University, followed by her Master's (1999) from Radford University, and a Doctorate in Psychology (2003) from Xavier University (American Psychological Association accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology). Dr. Norton completed her predoctoral residency training at the Children's Hospital of Michigan/Wayne State University School of Medicine. She then completed subspecialty fellowship training in pediatric psychology/ behavioral medicine (the specific study of the interplay between physical disease and psychological factors from infancy through adolescence) at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Norton has spent the last 6 years as a member of the medical staff at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron, where she co-developed a behavioral medicine consultation service for children in the hospital. This service primarily addressed the psychological needs and concerns of children and adolescents (and their families) during hospitalization for acute or chronic physical health problems and also provided patients with outpatient follow-up care post-discharge. Dr. Norton spent the last 3 years serving as the psychologist in the Division of Critical Care, providing services to children and families in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. In this role, Dr. Norton worked directly with the intensive care physicians to provide the comprehensive care to patients and their families during the most difficult of circumstances, including end-of-life. Dr. Norton worked closely with many children and young adults facing death to find joy and comfort in their life, while also coming to peace with their early death.

Dr. Norton is among a very few number of outpatient providers, and one of the only in independent practice in NE Ohio, who have extensive training and expertise in the subspecialty field of pediatric psychology, also referred to as pediatric behavioral medicine. With its significant focus on the interplay between physical disease and psychological factors, this field differs from the more general practice of child psychology. Dr. Norton has a specific passion for caring for pediatric patients with significant physical disease, as well as their families. Having exclusively trained and practiced in major medical centers, she has been exposed to some of the most complex and complicated pediatric diseases in great breadth and depth. She also has tremendous interest and expertise in the management of physical symptoms (such as headache, abdominal pain, and pseudoseizures) which would suggest physical illness though appear to be largely impacted by psychological factors. Dr. Norton has always functioned as a member of a team of pediatric doctors of varying subspecialties and she is well accustomed to interacting with physicians for the purpose of optimal patient management. In addition, Dr. Norton has tremendous experience in the evaluation and management of psychological concerns of very young children, such as developmental and behavioral concerns, parenting questions, depression, anxiety, socialization or relationship difficulties, and family stress.

Dr. Norton has a love for children and a desire to help each child be at his/her best. Whether working with the children in her office, or being with her own children at home, she fully enjoys her experience with them. Dr. Norton lives on the west-side of Cleveland and is eager to serve the children and families in her community. She is married with two small children, who are her greatest pleasure. They also have two dogs, the newest is a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy (who will become a pet therapy dog). In addition to her love of animals, Dr. Norton enjoys photography, nature, and reading.
